Our research has taken us farther than we thought possible. We wanted to test the impact of aging beer with fresh wood, how many types of wood could there even be? The answer? Tons. Seriously, there are like, a million types of wood. We thought we'd be exploring once maybe twice, but we could go on FOR-EV-ERRR. And so, Wood was born! We start by taking a barleywine, adding ever-changing fresh wood varieties from batch to batch, and finding new frontiers of flavor through our results. Is it dangerous? You're damn right it is! Are we up to the challenge? Even we're not sure, but you can rest your pretty head at ease knowing that we've sort of got a handle on it.

Dark brown body with a finger of tan foam. Boozy nose, has great wheat, caramel, toffee, and wood. Taste start with the wood, wheat, and booze, then has a huge cool infusion of caramel, toasted toffee, and a liqueur like cognac, before finishing with some much booze. Get a hint of licorice in there too as it warms. It is a big beer in the feel: boozy, wheaty, chewy, thick, has wood tannins everywhere, the kind of beer that puts hair on your chest. If you like wheatwines like I do, this is well worth your time. The wife loved it

Canned 10/7/19; drank 11/7/19 @ the Yarchives.

Cloudy brown/purple appearance.

A violent pour yielded a small khaki head; decent lace.

Fresh wood, strawberry & mild leather notes in the nose.

Thick, sticky mouthfeel.

Fresh wood, caramel, strawberry & dry leather flavors; booze heat emerged as this warmed.

Sweet & robust; this was a fine, challenging brew. I'd have another!

Reddish-brown body with a thin yet lasting head; creamy with some rings of lacing inside the glass. Mild fragrance of white oak and some sweet, toasted malt grains; caramel and toffee. Tremendously huge sweet and fruity flavor with a near knockout punch of alcohol; dark pitted fruits, dried, like prunes, dates and figs; candi sugar; boozy. Incredibly heavy body; thick, oily, and chewy; viscous; immense residual sugar body; very warm (but not hot) alcohol presence.

What an eye popper of a beer! Its immense character oozes thick, rich flavors and alcohol. This beer most definitely is a sipper. It comes across like a liqueur or brandy more than anything else. Great treat for those who like the bold beers...
