Picked this up as soon as I saw it on the shelf. New Image has a history of building some great IPA's. A technical note: This is a Triple-Dry-Hopped Double IPA. I couldn't find that in BeerAdvocate's list of styles, nor even a simple Double IPA, which seems like an oversight, but there you are.
Pours a hazy wheat-yellow with a finger or two of head that fades and leaves a bit of lacing. The smell is almost pure citrus - orange peel, lemon, you name it. It's bright and delicious to inhale. It's nice and bitter on the palette with good residual carbonation. For me, a beer needs to have that 'pop' in mouthfeel to be satisfying. This Double Double Double has it. It goes down very easy and leaves only a faint aftertaste. A bit too heavy to be a party beer, but just right for a chilly late winter afternoon.
This is a worth addition to New Image's beer portfolio. I have never been disappointed with one of their brews, and I am not let down with this one. I picked up two pint cans as soon as I saw it on the shelf. If you're a fan of the D-IPA style and have a few hours to kill one afternoon, give this a try. You will not regret it.
