Slightly less than a fingers worth of medium khaki colored froth with limited retention... Deep warm caramel color... Nose is dominated by breast malts and caramel sweetness... Taste profile is consistent with nose but there is a slight hop presence which greatly adds to the overall depth and complexity... Medium bodied and dense with some sharp carbonation... Decent enough brew and nice to find new offerings in this forgotten style... Overall a bit less than the sum of its parts...

I like how they list the ingredients on the side of the can:
Malt: Blue Ballad, Crystal 30, and Crystal 10
Hop: Columbus
Yeast: German lager, interesting as the beer is an ale making this similar to a California Common (Steam) Beer
Dark amber, approaching brown, color. Crystal clear. Moderate head that fades to film, leaving minor spots as I drink the beer.
Sweet caramel nose. Plenty of biscuit, almost cookie like. Maltose from the Crystal which must have been used in high quantities.
Creamy body which comes from the sugars, but this is not a coyingly sweet beer, but it's close. While the hop is present, it doesn't quite balance out the malt the stronger malt. The carbonation feels low, but in reality it is probably at the median. Chewy, brown sugar finish that lingers a while on the tongue.
