First taste of this brewery from a 500ML bottle. Shared grudgingly with my wife, because it sounds like it’s right up my alley but she yelled “barleywine” while my head was in the fridge. I am obedient.

First, fuck this wax. It’s horrifying. Thicker than some oaks in my backyard. The pour is dense black; hand me this & tell me it’s a stout & I’ll clap you on the back & say thanks. The smell brings rye & sweet, sweet malt love.

Intent ain’t no smooth-talker. It’s rough & jagged & I like it. Hard booze fronts a bitterness with a backing of black licorice mixed with a sprig of mint…that’s not quite right, but it’s close. Soft rye kicks in mid-palate & brings smiles & puppy dogs & more sweet malt on the finish. Slightly medicinal. Thick. Half this small bottle was probably right.

Interesting kick on a b-wine. Very good beer bordering on excellent.

First note: the wax on this bottle is stupid, had to literally saw my way into it, the "pull tab" just disintegrated due to the wax thickness, docking the apperance score. The actual pour is super dark opaque brown, no head save a tiny short lived ring. Smells of boozy oxidation with the bourbon, rye, barley and molasses. Tastes of rye, dark caramel, raisin, bourbon, barley, date, and cocoa. Feel is smooth, warm, viscous with rye and barley cutting in smoothly. The other intent was orignal and inspired, this is simpler but deep in warm and heavy elements
