This latest vintage comes as the first solera-style pull from our Maple Bourbon cask system, which was first harvested, in part, back in the spring of this year. As the liquid inside these casks continues on its journey to becoming Solera barleywine, the subsequent harvests will transform. The vibrant flavors of oak and spirit will begin to slowly give way to increasing characteristics of oxidation and extended aging, while the fresh beer introduced with each top-up will restore the structure of the younger beer.
Tasting this blend, you'll find that the maple bourbon casks have continued to further impart their flavors, the complex sweetness of the maple and structured tannin from the oak having only increased since the first pull last spring. The depth and nuance from oxidative aging have also continued to impart further maturity to this blend, softening the hard edges and delighting the palate with notes of dried figs, dark cherry and subtle earthen tones. Finally, the young beer introduced with the last solera top up has brought back youth to the blend, ensuring that while the complexity of extended aging increases the structure of the fresh beer is never lost.

Really good. Thick, sweet, plenty of barrel presence on a very good base. Even cold, it has a sticky feel: it’s a very assertive beer with maple and barrel flavors and a bold big boozy body. I had an earlier version of this that I liked, so I bought the newer one. They keep making these, I’ll keep buying them.

Appearance: Pours coffee colored; no carbonation so no lacing
Smell: Caramel, maple, and Bourbon with subtle dried fruit tones
Taste: Caramel and maple flavors forward with Bourbon enhancing; throughout, there are cherry and dried fog tones that add a fruity angle; the finish has some boozy Bourbon tones that add complexity and warmth
Mouthfeel: Full bodied with no carbonation; warmth in the gullet
Overall: Not sure I have had an oxidized Barleywine before but this is interesting; I love a good English barleywine and would like to see some earthy bitterness here that I cannot find; otherwise, I find this one very pleasing
N.B. This is Blend 3 but as I couldn't find anything on New Image's Insta feed that detailed how it differed from Blend 2 (which had multiple posts) I figured I would rate it here. WIth a 14.68% ABV, it is likely a bit less boozy than Blend 2.

I love a still barleywine and this is a good one. I only poured 3-4 ounces and that's about right for something this sweet. Lots of maple and brown sugar dominate this one. At the edges are sherry, tobacco, chocolate, cola, and caramel. There is a nicely warming brown liquor at the exhale. Looking forward to another couple of pours in the coming weeks.
Baldin's Xyauyu series is still the benchmark for oxidized barleywine but this is definitely worth trying.

Sweet brown sugar malty, overripe dark fruits, a hint of maple syrup sweetness, and a bourbon barrel nose on this one! Taste follows with a semi-sweet, caramel and chocolate, some tart dark cherries, and a prominent bourbon barrel boozy finish. This is...different. There is a slightly off-putting fruit-tart/sour vibe that is paired and clashes with some out-of-place bitterness. This takes away from and disguises any normal barleywine sweetness that I look forward to. Also, if it is going to be still/oxidized, it should be a little more fuller and viscous on the palate IMO.
