Inspired by a growing trend in Japanese whisky and building off of our success with wood finishing: Mizunara features a base blend of two barleywines from our barrel cellar, finished with this exotic “Japanese Oak”. The base blend brings a depth of dark fruit, spirit and burnt sugar while the Mizunara adds vibrant flavors of coconut and cinnamon.

Insanely dark brown opaque body with a medium brown collar. Aromas of leading barley and wood, with dark fruit, vanillins, caramel, coconut and cinnamon. Taste adds some cigar wrappers and earth. Very good barrel depth and rustic in an elegant way but thinner. Unique and well made that you slowly want to enjoy over the course of an evening

I am a sucker for good beer marketing & this might be the pinnacle. Rare wood? That tastes weird? AND A BARREL AGED BARLEYWINE??!?! Yup. Here’s my credit card. Please don’t abuse it. 500ML bottle.

This stout black, unexpected. Looks dead. Booze scorches the nose hairs.

Mizunara packs a fiery punch; needs one of those “contains alcohol” labels. Boozy punch, whisky. The port barrel provides a backdrop of black fruit. Burnt caramel, burnt vanilla. Brown sugar, with an unpleasant whisper of raisin. Booze though; that’s the big tent this lives under. A big, thick bruising beer.

I’m drunk. No, you’re drunk! Damn drunks. Very good beer that kicks right up against excellence.
