look: 3.75 | smell: 3.75 | taste: 3.75 | feel: 3.75 | overall: 3.75
This was poured into an English pint glass. The appearance was a soft hazy burnt dark orange slightly copper in color with a finger’ s worth of messy white foamy head. Dissipated fairly gentle to leave some messy lace. The aroma had a nice blend of sweet English biscuit/bready malts cleanly rolling over a light caramel/toffee base. Earthy/grassy hops, Fuggles-like penetrate through in a nice way. The flavor yielded to the malts in a nice way, semi-crisp yet wet. Added in a little bit of toast right before the aftertaste which blended that in for the balance. Light malty guarded finish, super light earthiness. The feel was about medium bodied, maybe just a tad under with a sturdy sessionability about it. Low carbonation as it should be for this style. ABV felt good, perhaps just a touch above than projected. Overall, I’d say this was a pretty good ESB that I would have again. I even think the English might like this one. Only way to find out for sure is if 10th District puts this on cask, and they may have, but I don’t know for sure.
