A collaboration with our awesome friend Kyle from Horus Aged Ales in Oceanside, California. This stout was aged for 23 months in Eagle Rare bourbon barrels. This derby pie-inspired stout was conditioned on roasted cocoa nibs, vanilla bean caviar, walnuts and cinnamon.

The amazing Eagle Rare bourbon barrel aged. The vanilla was very nice and the walnuts offer some balance. It is a very, very good beer. My favorite from the recent beer share.

On tap. Black color. Tan head.
Very nutty. Lots of walnuts. Vanilla, caramel, fudge. Thick and dessert like. Fairly balanced, but definitely on the pastry side of things. The walnuts steal the show and provide some balance. This is a favorite from the anniversary release.

First ForagerFest bottle going down. 22 ounces in their cool rough black bottles split with my wife, who generously allowed me to blow a lot of money on beer this weekend. Though she doesn’t know how much. Let’s not tell her.
Blacker than the soul of any random Yankees fan with a mocha cap that dissipates slowly over a matter of minutes. The nose is a lot of bourbon, a lot of cocoa, a lot of vanilla, with a subtle touch of nuttiness in the background.
Derby Pie is THICK. First impression isn’t additions or bourbon or malts, it’s that you could stand a black lab upright in this. Wow. Doesn’t taste bad either. Vanilla & bourbon fence for dominance out of the gate, both deep & luscious. Mid-palate brings bitter chocolate, sweet malts with an edge of roast. I could drink this bottle solo.
As a first venture into this rack of beers this is encouraging. Excellent beer with a pastry mouth & the depth.
