750ml waxed and capped bottle into a BBT snifter.
Pours thick, dark, and rich. No head, no lace. Slick, stringy legs. Nose is molasses, brown sugar, tobacco, anise, caramel, and maple. Rich and very aromatic. Beer opens caramel, maple syrup, and molasses up front. Hints of tobacco, barrel, brown sugar, and green raisin in the middle. Sugary, syrupy finish. Body is full with low carbonation. Slick, warm, and rich on the palate. Goes down messy with a long lingering finish. This is the body you want from a style like this.
This one's on the sweet side. A touch one dimensional.

I’ve had samples (multiple) at two beer festivals this summer & couldn’t wait to get my hands on a 750ML bottle when I saw they were coming out. Split with my wife.
Very dark pour for a barleywine with only rumors of red traced along the edges & a small, short-lived, dirty white head. The nose is oak, fusel booze. No beer on the detectometer.
Wolf & Otter breathes barrels. Complex layers of bourbon step atop a deep, dark, rich base of malt. Sherry/port is prominent through some witchery, along with toffee, oak, & a fluttering of other minor tastes. But this is all about the beautiful use of malt married to the barrels. I was less than satisfied with my tasters; half the bomber is almost enough.
A barleywine crafted with care & deft expertise, this is an excellent beer that is a whisker from joining the elite.

On tap. Caramel dark brown color. Tan khaki head.
Warming bourbon, oak, whiskey, figs, raisins, toffee, caramel. Dried pear and apples. Maple and brown sugar. Massive barrels, but not booze. Vanilla. Port flavors. This is absolutely sublime. Straight up amazing ba English bw.

Dark reddish tiger eye brown with a short tan head dispersing to a flat, uneven ring and fuzzy film.
Exhibiting exceptional barrel clarity without too much wood or boozy heat, its expressions are clear and bright on the nose, while the malt ensures a far more rich and caramelly palate that's fairly thick. Here it develops an impressive char with accents of black pepper, dark maple and sherry.
Wolf & Otter was easily the best of show at Great Taste of the Midwest. If they could match volume output while maintaining this level of quality, this would be a VSOJ killer.
