Bought in June 2023, opened and consumed on May 12, 2024.
A - Pours out a clear golden body, some haze as the bottle runs down, bright white head, rocky and quick to fade to a white rim around the glass, thin lines of lacing.
S - Bright Saison notes of lemon citrus, floral honey notes, and a strong funky undercurrent, grass with subtle plastic aspects from the fermentation, right in line for the style.
T - Follows the nose, with pungent acidity and grain notes in the open, a white wine/green grape aspect joins sweeter honey and floral elements through the middle, and a bit of zest and bitterness over an earthy aspect in the finish.
M - Moderate weight for the style and ABV, brisk carbonation and a dry close that lingers softly on the tongue.
O - The joy of this beer is how pleasant and restrained these elements are while each is nevertheless notable and clear. The result is highly satisfying, an example of what a great pleasure drinking a Saison can be, with all the upside and little of the more punishing aspects that some Saisons exhibit that might otherwise leave you taxed. Superb.
