The beer pours a very delicious looking brown head that dissipates quickly but leaves a nice ring around the inside of the glass. The beer itself is a really nice and temptingly delicious dark chocolate black with light brown notes with a bourbon like texture.
The smell is really good. It starts off with a really nice roasted note but the almond smell starts to really develop and come out a lot more to create some competition for the vanilla. The overall smell is rather sweet with the almond such that the vanilla and roasted notes are dominated; supporting the sweetness rather than balancing it out. The Ghirardelli chocolate is a bit light and doesn't really come out.
The taste is fantastic. The Ghirardelli chocolate comes out a bit stronger and the sweetness from the almond is dialed down quite a bit. There is a light bourbon note that mixes well with the chocolate and seems to cover the vanilla.
The feel is good. It's a bit thin and not as heavy as one would expect (but still heavy). The carbonation is light and almost non-existent.
Overall, a really good beer that was worth the trouble of getting and one I plan to look for next year if it's available.
