Picked this up recently at Cable Beverage in New York, as I never had anything from Commonwealth before. Loved the name and label buy boy, did this feel every bit the part of an Imperial IPA as this was quite thick and strong at the onset!
Quite a thick pour to this as the apricot-hued beer was topped off with a thin, spongy head that settled unevenly with some big bubbles spread out among the littler ones. Tons of citrus, orange blossom, mango, guava, and booze in the nose as the taste was just as turbid, heavy, and syrupy on the palate. Very little lacing remained on the side of my pint glass aside from a hint of a tilted, rocky ring near the top of my pint glass as some deep forest, candied sugar, and orange zest emerged as this warmed up. Lots going on here although there wasn't any overt hop burn or presence of them, this beer still packed a punch as the moderate carbonation and balanced body did their best to keep this from being any stronger than it was in actuality.
In other words, I wish this had been toned down a notch or two. It's not that I didn't enjoy it, but this just needed some tweaking to take it up a notch or two. Some tangerine cream stuck around in the aftertaste, along with a few bits of darker sediment, as a date on the bottom of the can would have been appreciated. Worth a go once as a second can would have put me out for the night and made me wonder how I succumbed to the Wolfmother...

16 oz. can.
No date on can.
Moderate pour yields a pure white, one inch head with some lacing. Nose of citrus (orange), tropical fruit (mango), and the slightest pine. Taste mirrors nose mostly with flavors of candied citrus coming through as well. Fairly dry, bitter finish with flavors of tropical fruit and citrus. Nice feel and overall a fine TIPA from VBVA! Cheers!!!

L: Poured from a tallboy can to a snifter glass. Had a burnt orange color and a very cloudy consistency. There was an inch of foamy, somewhat long-lasting head. Below average lacing.
S: A very nice aroma of hops, citrus fruit, malt, pine, and tropical fruit.
T: Tasted of a small amount of malt (mostly in the finish), light tropical fruit notes (mango, in particular), a tinge of pine, lots of hops (the dominant ingredient here), and a good shot of citrus fruit as well (orange, in particular). This is a vibrant and aggressive flavor. It's a TIPA, but it's not over-hopped - nonetheless quite hoppy. Tasty stuff.
F: A well-carbonated beer with a vibrant finish. Medium-bodied.
O: A well-made, likable beer. Drinkable.
