The beer pours a very light and medium brown head that dissipates fairly quickly while the beer itself is a deep and dark chocolate brown that closely resembles black. The texture looks nice and thick with a syrup and melted milk chocolate appearance.
The smell is pretty good. It has a strong and bittersweet dark chocolate note mixed with marshmallows in the beginning and finishes with a light coconut and alcohol note with some bourbon in the finish.
The taste is absolutely fantastic, indulgent, and delicious. It is a blast of bitter dark chocolate mixed with caramel malt notes that finishes up with a bunch of bourbon notes. The beer starts upfront with bitter dark chocolate and caramel note with a hint of marshmallow that disappears very quickly. The chocolate and caramel continue and accompanied by the bourbon and a toasted coconut note. The taste finishes with the bitter dark chocolate, caramel, and Tahitian vanilla beans.
The feel is good. It has a slightly sticky and viscous feel to its heavy body and strongly resembles a melted milk chocolate mixed with syrup and bourbon. The carbonation is tiny and tingling.
Overall, a delicious beer and the brewer really kicked it up a notch this year with this variant.
