From the can, it pours a clear dark but not opaque mahogany color with a modest off-white head that slowly reduces and leaves lacing. The nose gets roasted malts overall. The mouth follows, with roasted notes with some caramel and a touch of burnt malt.

Pours a clear, deep mahogany coloration with a ruby sheen and a medium, frothy head. Smells of roasted, caramel malt and some chocolate and dark fruit coming through, with notes of raisin and fig, as well as just a hint of coffee. Taste is a great balance of roasted, caramel malt and herbal, bitter hops, with some chocolate and lighter coffee coming through, as well as dark fruit, with notes of raisin and fig and just a hint of licorice. Finishes with a medium bitterness and some roasted malt, chocolate and dark fruit lingering in the aftertaste. Smooth mouthfeel with a medium body and carbonation.

This makes for a nice Doppelbock with a rather roasted and bitter character, which I really like about this. There's some sweetness from the caramel malts for balance, while the dark fruits and hints of coffee and licorice flesh this out rather nicely. I'm not sure if I would call it a typical example of the style, more of an American interpretation really, but still quite tasty for what it is, although perhaps just a bit lacking in body and mouthfeel.
