2021 bottling; consumed on 4/7/2022
Pours a viscous, pitch-black body forming the slightest suggestions of frothy, dark mocha cap before fading almost immediately to a velvety void, rocky, creamy collar, and no lacing whatsoever holding to the walls of the glass.
Aromas of raspberry torte and cinnamon toast upfront largely conceal hints of vanilla char as an underlying milk chocolate meets ripe spikes of boozy oak in waves throughout, and subtle burnt dark chocolate impresses on the close.
Taste finds bakers chocolate overwhelmed with raisin juice and a tannic port overlay, with intermittent milk chocolate over the mid-palate bringing faint oak and hints of subtle vanilla into the back end.
Mouthfeel is on the heavier end of the spectrum, sporting minimal carbonation and showing a silky texture and subtle, underlying grit; a tannic twang extends over the mid-palate, cut by a syrupy viscosity through the back end with waves of boozy warmth on the finish.
Port is awkwardly aggressive while minimally expressive here, dispersing a largely one-dimensional tannic overtone blotting out roast or finer malt detail and minimal barrel; incredibly sweet and rich, yet the lack of depth leaves this one a struggle to drink.
