Aroma is fresh, juicy, and piney. The drink starts smooth and syrupy like the style demands, but blooms nicely on the tongue into big notes of bitter grapefruit and tangerine. Enough pine and malt body to carry that bitter citrus up so it's not too cloying, and enough to give this a moderately full, slick body. Not quite as thick and sticky as some imperial IPAs, but enough to earn the title just the same. Bright, full, drinkable, and a little more citrusy than some Simcoe-forward brews. Would pick up again.

fresh hop double ipa right here, all simcoe from what i understand. its a little past the season, i cant iagine this just came out or anything, but its drinking really nicely despite that, and is one of the better hoppy beers i have had from these guys since double wide. bright golden honey to orange color, sticky and fresh looking and smelling. through the inch of white lace head i pic up classic grapefruit notes and bitter oily resinous freshness. i also get an odd pineapple juice aromatic that i dont usually associate with simcoe, but its a little sweet and very appealing. the flavor matches the smell pretty good here, less pineapple more citrus, plenty bitter, oily, even pine, intense like cleaner at first but mellowing quickly. not a ton of grain flavor for how much body and alcohol is in here, just a generic base pale malt is all it seems. soft feel, relaxed carbonation from the tap, smoother, a little sappy from the hops, freshness is still high here, and long and bitter on the finish. an interesting expression of simcoe, a little more fruity than i am used to in this varietal, and a very sneaky strong beer. had no idea it was this strong when i was drinking it and found myself buzzed up in a hurry...

On-tap 11/29/2016 at Doherty’s Ale House in Warwick, RI, served in a tulip glass.
A: The beer is a deep amber color, with a short off-white head that fades quickly and leaves a thin lace on the glass.
S: The aroma contains earthy hops, caramelized malts and some citrus.
T: The taste starts out sweet with flavors of caramel and citrus. Then a decent grassy hops bitterness comes in. The malt character is hearty and brings some balance. The after-taste is slightly sweet.
M: Crisp and a little smooth, medium body, medium carbonation, finish is slightly sticky.
O: A little tasty, goes down ok, not too filling, good kick, decent representation of style, it’s a decent beer but there are several others in the style that are better.
