Bottle dated best by July, 2017:
Beer pours a clear reddish brown, an attribute that is a little lost in a thick glass - where it appears a dark brown with a reddish hue. A decent beige head, but nothing too large. Medium rim is where it takes up residence, but none of it leaves the surface to provide any lacing.

Nose is that of an amber malted beer, with the slightest bit of light pipe smoke. The wood and alcohol are noticeable, but the fact that it's scotch isn't obvious. This is probably good as it provides a nice accent to the beer versus overcoming it. There is a general reminiscence of Backwoods Bastard - with not as much vanilla.

Taste opens with a strange void of flavor. I expect a little sweet maltiness, but there is really nothing happening at the tip of my tongue. After a delay, the scotch hits with a light smoky heat of alcohol. Finally the malts catch up, filling the taste out with the notes from the nose. A bit earthy, I also get leanings towards some dark fruits like raisin and date - but the flavors are muted. Later in the glass, the alcohol-soaked wood starts to take over, which disrupts the balance a tad, and not exactly to my liking.

The beer is quite light on the palate, though once things come together, the flavor goes from weak to medium bold. The finish does have the malt, peat, and alcohol lingering with a light tingle on the tongue, but it comes quickly.

This beer is fairly straightforward, not getting a lot of complexity. That can be fine, but that perceived pause up front and quick decay to the end taste want me having a little more time in the middle. The basic nature of this beer is almost lost in its fleeting nature.

Very good cigar beer. Malty, sweet, boozy. Medium bodied but kind of thin. Lot of floaters at the bottom. Good flavor, but a bit thinner than I expected from the style.

Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a Dogfish Head tulip

L: Beautiful caramel/copper pour with thick fluffy off-white head. Great lacing.

S: Sweet and malty... mixed with smoke and peat.

T/F: Just like it smells. Toasted grains and caramel sugars to start. Modest sweetness. Complimented by a bit of smoke and peat... oak... and some decent hop bitterness for balance. Medium bodied... hides its 9.6% heft. Decent carbonation.

O: Not my favorite style, but a well executed beer. A good mix of flavors... true to what a Wee Heavy should be... and I like that it's not super unbalanced sweet.

A: Poured into a snifter to a deep ruddy brown beer topped by a dense and slightly rocky finger of light tan head which fades quickly to a collar around the edge of the glass with minimal lacing
S: Smells of caramel, toffee, and slight banana note with a hint of smoke and vanilla.
T: Taste is nice smoke, toffee and banana, oak, caramel, light vanilla. Some nice earthy notes on here too. On the swallow there's more banana, earthy notes, oak, toffee, slight vanilla and some lingering smoke.
M: This beer is fairly full in body with a slightly slick feel on the palate. Carbonation is on the low end but is adequate for the style while the beer has a drying finish.
O: Overall this is a really nice beer. It probably isn't the most traditional and the banana note is a little odd but it does work well. This beer has a great amount of complexity and the flavors work well together. It's worth a try if they make it again.
