Born a double-mashed imperial brown ale, then matured for 18 months in freshly emptied 10-year Canadian rye whisky barrels, this sturdy ale features checkered notes of rich vanilla, charred oak, warming whisky and spicy rye. With a lingering, boozy sweetness and round, resonant flavor, Plaid Habit clearly earns its name.

Got to taste at the Brewery in KC. I have always liked Boulevard Brewing as they brew some really good strong beers. The taste is solid, and most have an aroma of alcohol that it is not as strong as the beer itself. It pours a dark brown color with a small tan head. Aroma and taste are caramel and roasted malt with a little alcohol. Very enjoyable sipping beer. Oct 2021

22 oz 2024 bottle with a surprisingly early BB date stamp of 4 February 2025. 11.9% ABV is listed on the label.
This has an obvious and strong influence from the Canadian whisky barrel aging: it is rather boozy and has a (overly?) strong and sweet whisky flavor. There's is plenty of whiskybarrel in the aroma as well. Smooth and full bodied.

L: Walnut body, not even a faint head.
S: Sweet and rich and boozy. Caramel, whisky, lots of whisky, vanilla, fig, tobacco, toasted malt, hints of licorice and spice.
T: Follows the nose. Big whisky flavors, boozy rye spice, tobacco, figs, notes of oak and wood smoke, caramel, sweet vanilla, roasty notes on the finish.
F: Very light carbonation, very warm.
O: Based on the nose I thought it’d be too cloying, and it is sweet, but not not overdone. Very barrel forward, good complexity, great to sip on.

The pour is umber brown with tan head of foam. The taste is velvety smooth, rich roasted malt, notes of rye whiskey barrel, tobacco char, blackstrap molasses, milk chocolate, caramel custard, vanilla, nutmeg, & a hint of prune. Moreover, the 11.9% abv feels more like an 8% abv. All in all, this was one of the better barrel aged beers that I've had as of late. Cheers! A-

Purchased at Bound Beverage, Warrington, PA. $16.50/4pk, 12oz bottles.
Pours a deep, dark brown color, almost black. Totally opaque. A one finger, dense, deep tan colored head on the initial pour. Sticky lacing left on the glass during the sampling.
Aromas of booze and sweet chocolate. Very nice smell.
A rather sweet, boozy, smoky taste on the first sip. Flavors of caramel, chocolate and bourbon. The barrel-aging has imparted a distinct alcohol booziness. It doesn’t overpower the beer but plays a leading role for sure. A sipper at 11.9%.
Medium to heavier consistency. Fine bubble carbonation.
Another winner from the Boulevard Smokestack Series. A boozy sipper that I really enjoyed savoring. Cheers!

5/16/24 On tap at Apothecary Ale House in Morgantown WV.
Aroma is amazing! Deep, dark sweetness that lulls one to heavy eyelids before even partaking. Definitely full of whiskey aroma, sweet roasty brown sugar, and toasted marshmallow.
Super sweet, almost overly sweet, but certainly balanced. Like a shot of brown-sugared whiskey, lit on fire, smothered, smoked, and oozing with marshmallow.

Note: The ABV for 2024 is 11.9%.
It pours dark brown with a finger of beige film. The flavor is plaid: the first notes are a combination of charred oak and vanilla. The sip is warming with the taste of whiskey barrel slats and brown sugar. By force of will, I. Am. Sipping. Though I want to do a chug with class.

Pours medium brown with a dark colored head. Aroma is complex, with whiskey, wood - specifically oak, and vanilla present. Taste is wonderfully balanced, with the whiskey and oak present. Vanilla is present is smaller amounts than the aroma but hits at the extreme end. I do detect charring, though it is balanced by a brown sugar taste. This is quite tasty.

Pours a dark brown with a finger of off white foam. Smells of brown sugar, vanilla, and roasted malt. The flavor is sweet brown sugar with a little roast on the finish. Warming but not hot. Could be dangerous if not careful.

Darkbrown with ruby highlights and a modest but lingering tan head.
The aroma is whiskey, caramel malt, vanilla, pumpernickel and brown sugar.
The taste is smooth Canadian Whiskey up front, then somewhat sweet malt, hazelnut, pumpernickel, brown sugar, oak and vanilla. The finish dries out a bit with some white pepper and char notes.
The body is full, good carbonation level, oily smooth, very drinkable. My bottle claimed 11.9 % ABV, does this depend on which whiskey barrel was used?
Altogether, this is a bit on the sweet side but still an outstanding brew, very tasty and enjoyable, probably best as an after dinner sipper, but great anytime on a cool day.
