Our take on the well-known American Brown Ale represents a bit of a twist as our brewers chose to focus on complex layers of caramel malt accented by small percentages of flaked oats and roasted barley in the malt bill balanced by a beginning of boil hop charge of Hallertau Blanc hops. Fermented with our house Scottish yeast strain, Tasting Room American Brown Ale presents dark, fruity esters and toffee/biscuity malt in the aroma followed by sweet, toasty grain notes leading to a slightly sweet, lingering finish.

Very good Brown Ale, almost tastes like a Red. A little darker in color than a Red though. A more roasted malt flavor and sweetness. Rated 7-15-2021. 19 IBUs

Boulevard Brewing Co. "Tasting Room Series: American Brown Ale"
12 fl. oz. brown glass bottle coded "10MAY2019" which I'm guessing is a production date.

Notes via stream of consciousness: It's got a hazy dark chestnut body with glowing ruby and orange highlights at the base of the glass. The head is a short cap of creamy tan foam although it seems to be dropping before my eyes. That's disappointing; I'm guessing there won't be much lacing left behind. The aroma is malty with caramel, chocolate, and nutty notes as well as a bit of plum. On to the flavor... exactly as the nose suggested it would be. There are only minimal hop contributions that I'd call leafy and earthy. It seems, in all honesty, more of an English brown ale than an American brown ale. I'm getting yeastiness that's fruity, like plum, and perhaps pear and apple, but that's more than you normally get out of Chico or California ale yeast. And the limited hop doesn't really appear American although there could be a touch of orange-like citrus in there. It's also fairly soft in the bitterness arena, which is totally fine by me. There's some sweetish malt upfront but it finishes dry in the end. It's medium to medium-light in body and gently crisp. There's more carbonation to it than an English brown ales poured via cask and sparkler, but it's not also as carbonated as I find most American brown ales to be. It's nicely creamy given the body and carbonation that's there, which again, seems very English. I think it's perfect except that it's called an American brown ale - although, it is indeed, an American brown ale so maybe that's OK.

Nice brown/mahogany hued body; relatively thin yet lasting head. Very little aroma; very, very faint malt, but little else. A bit of a stretch to say there is caramel in the taste, but it's just possibly there; metallic; extremely mild bitterness. Medium-light body; slick and watery.

This is a poorly done example of a brown ale, weak and watery throughout.

Good representation of the style. Not outstanding but enjoyable.
If you know someone who drinks michelob amber and you want to ease them into craft beer this is a good starting point

From the bottle, it pours a nice clear brown with a nice head that slowly diminishes to a thin layer. No lacing. Slight scent of roasted malts. Taste is pleasant, with caramel and roast malt.

Dark brown with thinner, light tan head. Malty, fruity (juicy fruit, almost) smell with light chocolate. Similar flavor with a bit of cinnamon. Really tasty.

American Brown Ale pours a darker brown, opaque color, with a long lasting, small head. Aroma is sweeter and maltier, with a hint of metal. Flavor is a little metallic, with a nice creamy malty backbone. Good body and feel. overall, a nice brown ale, good body and feel really helps this one.

12 oz bottle poured into Stella glass.

Reddish-brown mahogany color with a finger of khaki head. Light lace in a ring left around the glass.

Spicy caramunich coming on strong in the nose. Some autumn vibes of cinnamon, nutmeg, and allspice, followed by hints of roast and chocolate. Slight noble hop character at the tail end.

Flavor starts out a bit empty, with a quick shot of seltzer then it wells up into roasty malts, cacao nibs, cinnamon, and some basic caramel malt.

Feel is somewhat thin, very carbonated, with an odd acidic bite. Drying finish much like coffee.

Overall, not a bad brown ale, but it doesn't particularly stand out. It's definitely drinkable/enjoyable, I'd say it's what you'd likely find on tap at a B-Dub's.
