Maple syrup? Whiskey barrels? Sign me up. Sign up my wife. Sign up my grandma & paid mules. It’s on the shelf? Huh. Drop the score by a half point right up front. 750ML bottle.

The pour is darkish red, darkish brown, Nose is a hip-punch of maple syrup & booze. Booze.

Hold the Pancakes is bloody delicious. The whiskey is prominent, & melds with the sweetness of the syrup flawlessly, leaving a sharp but sweet afterimage. Middle Earth brings booze, molasses, toffee, ending with a touch of vanilla. Slight booziness, but hard to believe this is 13.9% until I try to stand up. Tasty. I could drink plenty of this.

Ultimately, this is a beer that thrives on exquisite integration. The use of whiskey barrels & syrup is magnificent. As is the beer. Fire up the Pinto, grandma!

Boulevard Hold The Pancakes Strong Ale, 13.9% ABV. Pours black with a one-finger tan head which left no lacing. Nose is bourbon and maple, taste follows, quite sweet, almost no bitterness. Excellent mouthfeel though light carbonation. Overall outstanding.

750ml bottle. Poured out an opaque, jet-black color with a small, light brown head of foam. It smelled of maple syrup, chocolate and molasses. Very sweet but mellows as it warms up. Lots of maple and chocolate. Roasty coffee flavors, too.

Opens with a gentle pop, pours fairly a carbonated and slightly murked up chestnut with a thumb of caramel colored head. Traces of lacing & no head retention

S: Some maple syrup, builds over time, dates, plenty of booze once warm

T: Follows, the nose, a touch of booze, a little gingersnap, brown bread & fig up front. Christmas Cake, dried fruit & some nuts, molasses & booze edge as this warms & treacle as well. Finishes dry boozey with cashews, figs & raisin

MF: Medium body, minimal carbonation, warming

A bruiser that delivers flavor & depth of complexity, compares favorably with Founder's Better Half

L: Had this beer on-tap at Capital Ale House - Innsbrook, poured into a snifter glass. Had a deep, dark brown color and a thick, opaque consistency. There was a 3/4", foamy, off white, long-lasting head. Fantastic lacing.

S: A big, bracing aroma of maple syrup, malt, booze, caramel, and molasses.

T: Tasted of a decent amount of malt (present throughout), a tinge of molasses (lingers around the edges), some caramel notes, a ton of maple syrup (a dominant ingredient), and a lot of bourbon and whiskey. A incredibly powerful, complex, and aggressive flavor. Yes, it is boozy as hell, but it still manages to work well. Tasty stuff.

F: A good amount of carbonation with a sharp, warm finish. Full-bodied.

O: An excellent, well made beer. Drinkable.
