Our latest Brewhouse One Release is brewed in collaboration with our friends Rochester Brewing & Coffee right here in the crossroads. It is a blend of two different types of whiskey barrels, 60% in rye barrels and 40% in whiskey barrels with maple added at the finish. Our team selected the barrels and we let the coffee experts pick the perfect blend of beans, which happened to be their Rochester Original blend featuring beans from Guatemala and Brazil.

The result is Double Barrel Aged Imperial Maple Coffee Ale. A mouthful to be sure, but then, so is the beer. Clocking in at 13.4% abv the beer is buzz worthy in more than one way. Spicy rye up front, tempered by the subtle addition of maple. While the coffee is bright and floral and not typical of a coffee chosen for a barrel aged beer, the body of the blended beer supports a coffee that is lightly roasted.

(initail review from November 2022) Javaheads rejoice! Exceptionally well balanced, complex BA imp brown w/great palate heft, big coffee aroma, unbelievably subtle bourbony/mapley/rye spiciness/whisky/roasty/malty flavors, lovely mouthcoating aftertaste & such a smooth fooler of a 13.4%er that drinks like much less & gets boozier as it warms up (& you along with it)!

(2nd review from June 2024) See initial review. Holds up exceptionally well for a cellared/refrigerated year and a half old.

Todays review: See previous reviews. Another stowaway in the back of the basement beer fridge that's faded considerably from when I last had it in 2024. Still decent carbonation but all flavors really muted by now.

12oz bottle with a best by date of 28SEP2023, opened 9-1-24.
1/4" sand colored head that fades quickly to a thick ring and sparse cap. Dark brown body. Slippery lacing.
Boozy aroma, coffee, wet wood, brownie batter.
Semi-sweet chocolate. Sweet maple. Coffee. Booze. Earthy, rich malt and some dark fruit.
Medum plus body with a creamy mouthfeel. Lingering heat. Sweet and boozy, lengthy finish.
A little sweeter than what I typically go in for but this is tasty and very complex....good stuff.
Very Good.

I picked this beer up on my recent trip to boulevards brewhouse. (I believe that its only sold there) Its a thicker beer, which is usually an indicator to me that ill be done after just one. This beer, however, is a very easy sipper and I could quite comfortably sip a couple of these back to back. The maple flavor isnt really present for me which is a slight disappointment, and the coffee seems to take over a lot of the other flavors. Overall if you like heavier beers like stouts and porters, but find yourself tired of them after just one, then id recommend this ale, you get a relatively similar experience with a little less heaviness.
