Dark Crator is our big barrel-aged take on a classic German style. Barrel-aging this rich and complex lager adds a layer of wood and whiskey complexity over the caramel malt which is balanced by a soft roastiness. This Dark Crator is worth falling into.

12oz bottle enjoy before 08FEB2029 poured into a pokal glass at fridge temp 12.5% ABV per label. The beer pours mostly bright medium brown with khaki colored head. The head recedes to a thin ring and single layer of bubbles. Complete web of lacing. The aroma is moderate in strength featuring oak, vanilla and toasted malt. The taste is semisweet toasted malt with more oak, bourbon, vanilla. Mild bitterness. The feel is medium bodied with average carbonation and a mostly dry finish. Overall, very good strong bock.

Although it was a bit unprepossessing at the start, there’s a nice mild aroma that endures throughout. I enjoyed the sweet and malty taste, with zero unappealing aftertaste, and realized early on that the 12.5 ABV was no joke even though I couldn’t feel it for at the start. This is a beer type with which I am relatively unfamiliar, but it was good and easy drinking from start to finish.

PLEASE ENJOY BY 08FEB2029
Poured into a tulip a very nice dark brown color, very nice carbonation, with a very nice thick/creamy one-finger plus tan head, which also leaves a very nice oil slick, also some very nice sticky lacing. The nose is very nice, malty, hoppy, with some very nice chocolate/toffee, and with a very nice touch of whiskey, slight oak, vanilla, licorice. The taste is very nice, malty, hoppy, with a very nice chocolate/toffee, very nice touch of whiskey, oak, vanilla, licorice. Full Body, ABV hidden pretty nicely, a very nice complex brew. Overall, this is one fine tasty brew.

Dark Crator has a medium, cream-colored head and a clear, reddish-brown appearance, with moderate lacing. The aroma is of smoky bread crust. The flavor is of mild smoke, sharp, strong barley, and fairly-intense bitterness. Dark Crator has a medium body and a dry finish.

L: Opaque dark brown/mahogany, small off-white head, good retention and lacing.
S: Sweet, strong, tons of molasses, vanilla, dried cherry and plum; red wine, pumpernickel, clove and pepper.
T: Sweet, brown sugar, molasses, butterscotch, vanilla, toasted coconut, whipped cream, pumkin pie, allspice/clove/black pepper, hay, pumpernickel, milk chocolate. Isn't barrel-heavy, but it does compliment it. Part of me would like to see more barrel character, but this does keep it smooth and drinkable. I'm not a fan of heavy tannins. It's quite sweet but not cloying. Just pleasant. An excellent dessert beer.
F: Medium-plus, medium carbonation, smooth and creamy but not too oily or sugary. Slightly residual but not sticky.
O: An excellent brew. Something less overdone like a stout, nice drinkability, great flavors. Big fan.

From Liquor Shed, part of a mixed 6pack, bottled February 8th.
It pours a lovely clear crimson red with a finger of foam. Retention and lacing are first class.
The smell is caramel malt, big woody notes, alcohol, and the barrel, which seems to be the same aroma as the other 2 beers in the 6pack.
The taste is sweet caramel, wood, leather (yuck), booze, oh my. I reiterate that the BAging is so similar to the other 2 beers and I find it quite unacceptable to my palate.
Mouthfeel is fine, I would never drink this again.

Poured into a goblet: color is amber, not clear like a doppelbock, head is off white to light tan with fine bubbles, head presents 1/4 inch thick, head dissipates to thin ring along glass sides.
Smell is barrel, oak, toast, light caramel, vanilla, light booze.
Taste is similar with a pleasant oak, bareel, toast, caramel, vanilla, light booze, touch of sweetness; really a barrel beer more so than a doppelbock, but good.
Mouthfeel is low carbonation, moderate sweetness, low bitterness, low booziness.
Overall a great barrel aged beer but a bit limited in base beer notes.

Poured from 12-ounce bottle into a tulip glass. Burnt orange in color, with a reddish-orange highlight and a thick off-white head. Slightly sweet and quite boozy, with lots of barrel astringency. Notes of caramel, a little fruity, with a umami note and a hint of diacetyl. Excellent beer overall.

Drank 8/17/24
Pour is a ruby / amber, clear, finger of beige foam fades to a little circle in the middle and ring around the glass.
Nose is caramel, light bourbon, toasted bread
Taste follows. heavy caramel, bourbon, bready malt, toasted bread, nice warming alcohol on the finish, though no burn.
Full body, moderate carbonation. Easy to drink.

Dark brown In color with a murky complexion. There’s a fingernail of off white around the rim. The aroma is of dark, bready malt and sweet bourbon. I’m tasting dark, bready malt in the forefront and bourbon in the back of the palate. The mouth is boozy and lightly sticky.

I got a couple bottles of this beer from my good friend and old neighbor from the 'Wego. It poured a dark clear amber with thin white head that dissipated quickly and did not leave any lace. The scent had common Bock notes. The taste was nicely balanced and easy to drink with crisp bock malt base with subtle dark fruit and fig presence. The mouthfeel was lighter in body with good carbonation. Overall it is a solid beer.

12 ounce bottle into a pilsner glass. Best by 8/14/25, had 3/3/24.
Pours a lighter caramel color, mostly clear, with a two and a half inch foamy head with good retention and some foamy lacing. Aromas of whiskey, caramel, malt, raisins, some bread and oak, a little yeast, a hint of funk. Flavors of whiskey, caramel, raisins, malt, some oak, light bread. Tastes a little herbal and a touch sweet. Smooth, a very good medium body, well carbonated.
A worthy BA Doppelbock. Has a solid barrel presence, lots of good aromas, big caramel notes in the flavor. Maybe a little lighter bodied for the style. Very enjoyable.
