Biere de Garde pours a darker amber color with a medium-sized, long-lasting, lacing head. The aroma has notes of dark grain. The flavor has a sweet, sugary note, then finishes with a darker, marbled rye-like flavor at the end. Good feel. Overall, there is a decent amount going on, good strong flavors.

12oz bottle pours a rich brownish orange color with a moderately sized but fizzy light tan-colored head that dissipates fairly quickly. Smells of light, toasty, and bready malts with light caramel and hops. Robust flavor of toasty malts, caramel, honey and slightly funky yeast flavors. The hop flavor is not really noticeable beyond a very slight herbal flavor, and the bitterness is pretty minimal. Light to mild sweetness, medium body, fizzy carbonation mouthfeel, and a long finish with an aftertaste mainly of honey with light notes of yeast and hops.
This was the first beer I've tried from the style, but I quite enjoyed it and definitely want to try more.

This is basically a Saison Lite to me, despite the style classification and name. It didn't really taste like an amber or Belgian table beer, but I enjoyed it. It's got just a little bit of pepperiness to it, but it's subtle. You do taste the alcohol just a little, but it won't knock you on your tail at all. Nicely balanced and a good change of pace this time of year.
