Pours a dark copper color with a foggy translucency. Head is two fingers of off-white foam. Aroma is smoked crackers, spices, and toasty & roasty malts. Barrel pops through, but not heavy. Spices are potent, and center more on typical BBQ notes (not holiday spices.) Smoke is pretty heavy on the nose. Flavor profile is caramel and toffee, with a touch of fig behind. Spices, again, are big time. Smoke comes through, but it's less potent than the nose. Roasty and toasty malts. Barrel adds some complexity and depth. Mouth feel is medium in thickness. Texture is sorta glassy with some crushed fizz. Overall, pretty darn odd beer, but that could be discerned from the label.

My son picked up some of this beer on his last trip to Kansas City, and gave me a bottle for Father’s Day. Definitely not my style. I love a good quad, but I almost expected to find a sauce-covered rib hidden in the bottle. Thankful I only had one bottle.
