We’re thrilled to announce the newest member of the family with the release of Love Child No. 12, our latest and most exploratory blend yet. This year’s version is a thoughtfully crafted combination of:

55% various sour puncheons – a wide-ranging mix of golden ales and Flanders red ales, aged in large wooden vessels of various ages and hues

30% barrel-aged pale ale – chosen for its pronounced oak character and ability to balance acidity

15% barrel-aged barleywine – contributing depth, roundness, and a warming base to elevate the funk

The result is a beer that’s layered, lively, and truly unlike anything else in our portfolio. Love Child No. 12 is a testament to the magic that happens when creativity meets craft in the world of wild beer.

375ml bottle, cage over cork. No dating information found.
Clear, medium amber colored body. Removing the cork results in an audible pop. Long lasting one finger of off white colored, fine bubble head. Leaves behind partial walls and long strings of lacing.
Aroma of funk (leather and horse blanket) and fruit (lemon and date).
Taste is sour and tart, but has a layer of sweet fruit. Flavors of lemon, oak, red wine grape, and caramel. Funk of grass, hay, and leather. More slight fruit flavors of peach, sour apple, and cherry. Each sip's aftertaste is quick to depart.
Medium mouthfeel. Sticky and effervescent, with a dry finish. Not a tooth scraper, rather the leftover liquid seems to evaporate from the mouth following the swallow. Excellent carbonation.
Vinous, sour, and dry, but fruity. Well blended for complexity.

500ml bottle. Poured out a clear, golden amber color with a small, white head of foam. It left sudsy lacing. It smelled of funky notes, caramel, tart berries and lemon. Strong sour taste with caramel, berry, oak and vanilla.

Slightly hazy copper color with a modest but lasting off white head and lacing. The aroma is vinegar and funk, hints of apples, cherries, horse blanket and grapes.
The taste is sour/tart apple, cherry skins, concord grape. All of this blended with plenty funk and vinegar. The finish is dry with hints of hay, mild bitterness.
The body is medium, good carbonation, crisp and very drinkable.
Altogether, this is a very interesting brew, not your usual easy going lager for sure, it should go well with hearty fare but more for after dinner savoring, very well done.

Solid sour. Nose I get apple peel, baked tart, and a hint of maybe white cherry. Tastes of green apple, peach, white cherry, star fruit, crackery finish (but not overly dry). The tartness and funk is just right, which is what makes it great. Not overpowering, well balanced. The Brett character is well tucked but gives it structure. Great stuff!
