Pours a thick black/mahogany color with a tan head . Smell is herbal spicy and funky with cinnamon and nutmeg. Taste follows the nose chocolate roast star anise ,vanilla and cinnamon and licorice. mouth feel sweet with ABV well hidden.

pours a black body with tan foam head that caps at half a finger and holds with moderate retention and leaves no lacing behind as you sip. the head eventually dissipates to a patchy cap with ultra-thin halo
aroma is molasses, baking spice, and tingly anise. sweet and a little funky.
taste is burnt chocolate, molasses, baking spices, and anise. pretty straight forward, with the spices going in and out in flashes.
mouthfeel is high carbonation and thick bodied, running smooth and pillowed with a chewy mid and a spiced finish. molasses/resin and anise and a tad of that baking spice trio left in the aftertaste
overall:
fairly intense, esp as it warms up, but certainly interesting and carried by an agreeable overall feel imo. the booze is mostly hidden, but it could be a little less sweet, and the anise won't be for everyone. it's a solid sit and sipper but i think i'm good just with the single small can i had here.

Poured dark ack with a great head that lasted and left sticky lace.
Smell and taste are quite dominated by star anise.
Still a pretty good beer tho, and great can art!

This is a beautiful pouring beer. It pours pitch black. There's almost a nitro look to it, when the head forms, and it's a tick boy. The head is 3 finger, and tan. The head is very frothy, and fluffy looking. The bubbles are quite small. The retention is damn good, and there's a nice ring of lacing that clings to the glass.
The nose is, well, for a better word, pumpkin spice. There's a good amount of cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves in it. Very pleasing.
Taste - At first I get a nice malt, biscuit flavor. Then the spices kick in, and hard, but not crazy, if that makes sense. The cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, and star anise are powerful, but not unbalanced. They punch, but not overboard.
The body is good. Maybe slightly thin for the ABV, but it's not really very thin. The feeling from the spices lingers in my throat. Not like a resin feeling from a hoppy IPA, but it's there.
This is quite interesting, and I do like it.
