hands down the least impressive beer going at deep draft in my opinion, and most in need of some reworking. it looks nice from the nitro tap, real all bubbly airy dark mocha colored head on it, lasting too, but not quite as creamy as it should be for the nitro. the nose is alright, you get the black barley malt and hints of bitter dark chocolate and old coffee, but in the flavor, especially in the end, it comes undone a little bit. the bitterness gets harsh, almost acrid, and there is a strange out of place fruity thing that i dont think comes from yeast, its an off flavor of some kind. with the thin body (for the style anyway) it seems even more exacerbated because it lacks any richness to smooth it over. astringent pungent aftertaste is not very nice. it starts out better than that though, with the coffee element from the nose coming through a bit, and some hops too, but this could be improved pretty significantly on the next batch i think. this is really the only one of their beers that seemed amateurish to me, which is pretty solid for how little time they have been open.
