this for me was hands down the best beer on tap at deep draft last night. its really really good esb type, with a lot of hops and some really nice malt as a foundation. deep copper in color, darker than the standard i think, with several inches of off white head on top and great clarity, smells awesome, fresh malt thats not what i am used to. not sure what they are using here, but its not the classic maris otter we always see in the style, its richer, more flavorful, and drier in the end. the flavor is awesome on the grain too, same as it smells, with a slightly caramelized element and a hint of red apple. i love the hops, delicate european varietals i would think, but dosed rather heavily, smooth and pleasantly bitter to contrast the grain. a very very smooth and drinkable brew with a sturdy medium body and appropriately light carbonation. i only had one of these because i wanted to try their other stuff, but this is what i will be drinking when i return. easily my favorite beer i had here and one of the better takes on the style in the city.
