nice porter here, a tribute to the legend! slightly sweet as these go, but smooth and frothy and fluffy from the oats, nice malt bill on this, and plenty of nuance for what is also in many ways a rather simple beer. near black in color from the faucet at the source, some low shine to it, and a short but lasting light brown head of big almost soda looking bubbles. aromas of cigar, roast, milk chocolate, raisin, molasses, burnt coffee, and brown sugar, some oatmeal earthiness too, nothing from the yeast and just a late hop bitterness to me. the flavor is sweeter most of the way, but its well balanced because there is a lot of roast on this casting dark chocolate and coffee notes that work well with the malt richness. trace smoke to this, toffee and maple, bran muffin, even cola, nice layering of flavors. fuller bodied, long on the palate, made almost creamy by the oats, and with more carbonation than many of these have which keeps it moving pretty well. a nice hearty wintery dark beer overall, approachable and agreeable, maybe too sweet for five pints, but i dig it. this place is rad, hockey vibes, a little event and live music space next door, lofted bar area, mellow and cool, a great visit.
