We brewed this IIPA with the wonderful folks at Bellwoods Brewery. We decided to both make the same IIPA…. but different. We both used Mosaic, Cashmere and Galaxy and put our own special touch on each recipe. This beer is highly aromatic with notes of peach, melon and mango. The body is soft with a touch of sweetness to balance the tropical boatload of hops we used to make this.

At my lady Pamela's house; canned and chilled, 473mL in a pint glass. From the Huron Church Rd. LCBO in nearby Windsor. Canned October 1/25. My 15th beer from the Toronto, Ontario brewery, and 14th for 2025. Ridiculously recommended by Sundae the cat...

473 mL can from the LCBO; dated Oct 15 2025 and served barely chilled. This is my 4000th BA rating, a milestone I genuinely thought I'd never reach. Cheers!
Pours a hazy goldenrod colour, producing nearly two fingers of soapy, foamy white head that withers slowly. A little over five minutes later, I'm left with a creamy collar encircling a filmy cap; additionally, a centimetre-wide curtain of lace has been draped around the glass. Inconspicuous aroma dominated by muddled fruity notes, including mango, pineapple, orange and peach, with suggestions of herbal hops.
The flavour profile is sweet and reminds me of a fruit cup: I'm getting apricot, mango, pineapple and canned peaches in syrup, with hints of passion fruit, pear and cantaloupe. The sweetness continues into the back end, interrupted briefly by a flash of pithy, herbal hop bitterness; it concludes with orange, melon, mango and a touch of pink grapefruit fading into a sweet, slightly warming aftertaste. Full bodied, with low carbonation that weakly nudges against the palate, resulting in a smooth, fairly slick mouthfeel that suits the fruity, syrupy-sweet flavour profile well. Deceptively drinkable.
Final Grade: 4.16, an A-. Devil's Sauce is not necessarily a superlative double IPA, but I still enjoyed my glass thoroughly. It has been a few weeks since I tried Goblin's Trill, but I feel as if these sibling DIPAs are relatively close in terms of quality... at this moment, I might be inclined to give the edge to Bellwoods/Goblin's Trill, but that's by no means a decisive call. As luck would have it, I still have (at least) one can of both Sauce & Trill in my bar fridge, so I think I'll do a side-by-side later this week, and see which one wins out overall.

473ml can served cold into a pint glass. LCBO purchase for around $5.50 CDN. Canned October 1, 2025.
Appearance - Hazy honey brown yellow color with a finger plus of frothy white head on top. Great staying power.
Smell - Some dankness with overripe mango and a hint of peach. Quite fruity and inviting.
Taste - Sweet intially with overripe mango and peach again, followed by a hit of weediness. Smooth fruity flavors follow that up.
Mouthfeel - Quite sweet, not quite cloying but verging on it. Booze is well hidden. A bit sticky and full bodied with light but crisp carbonation.
Overall - An impressive collaboration that will certainly appease those loving a sweeter DIPA.

This is a collaboration between Blood Brothers and Bellwoods and I am trying the Blood Brothers version first.
Normally I think they do better stuff than Bellwoods, but this creation is originally a Belwoods solo effort, so I'm expecting it to be perhaps not quite as good (I gave Bellwoods Goblin Sauce a 3.89). But let's see if Blood Brothers salvaged it.
No idea if any of that made sense, but here I go.
Pours quite pale with a very small head. The nose is of some citrus but also some lardy funk. Not bad tasting, though not great either. First of all it has an oily feel. Beyond that the citrus/seeds body is okay. There is also hints of papaya.
The end notes are kind of blah. And boozy.
I think Blood Brothers tried here to make this their own, but they couldn't manage. A bit worse than the original.

A short while ago Blood Brothers and Bellwood's made a beer in collaboration. Both made their own version of an 8% (double?) IPA. I'm going to see who made the better beer.
Devil's Sauce pours little foam but has some fizz on top.
Medium yellow gold color that smells mostly of citrous and even some pineapple.
Taste wise there is some citrous rind and also some grain. I like the taste. Very bold and not for the faint of heart. Reminds me of a Dortmunder and IPA mixed together.
Something like this would put hair of your chest.
So drinking both beers basically back to back, who made the better beer?
Overall when it come's to beers I prefer Bellwood's, but on the double IPA challenge here I think Blood Brothers made the better beer hands down. There is a real difference and I'm sure you could tell if you put both of them side by side like I did. It got me thinking now that I should pay some more attention to Blood Brothers, even though I found them just ok in the past. I'll have to buy some more beers to find out.
Now normally I don't go for these stronger IPA's, it's not entirely my cup of tea although I like them here and there. Devil's Sauce would be a strong IPA I would enjoy more often if I could.
Bellwood's pay attention here. You've been beaten fair and square. Congratulations to Blood Brothers.
