Posted as a Session IPA on their website, but as a light beer on the can. I'm actually a bit intrigued here. Hope it's not low ABV Hop Oil.

Appearance: A nearly clear golden body that offers modest carbonation. Produced a finger of head that managed to leave some lace at the top of the glass before quickly disappearing.

Smell: It smells dry but not overly hoppy, as floral and the mildest citrus notes notes come forward with a straw malt backing. The beer doesn't need to warm up to reach potency as well, which I like.

Taste: Starts with dry straw malt with a well balanced floral aspect that builds in bitterness as slight citrus notes pair with it before coming to a appreciably mild ending. This isn't a typical IPA, it doesn't reach the obscene hops of the style and I'd be hesitant to brand it as such. That said, it also doesn't have the mineral note more common to regular pale ale and it a bit more malt focused.

Mouthfeel: The biggest issue here though is this beer is dry, and while it is one of those beers that uses it's dryness to entice you to drink more, it gets just slightly out of hand as the floral hop and straw aftertaste is dominant. Carbonation is mild, but that's good for my palate here as while I could use a bit more bitterness, this is still a good place to end. Transitioning is good, but it's not a very long journey.

Drinkability: Since it's so dry, I wouldn't call it refreshing. A quick session drinker, yes which goes with the Session IPA branding. However calling it "Summer Fever" to me would also imply something more akin to quenching thirst. It is light bodied, which I would hope so given it's ABV and it was easy enough to drink down.

Final Thoughts: This is a bit of a case of confused branding in my eyes. The session IPA, the tropical flowers on the can and I guess light in the sense of body and ABV yes, they are bang on. That said, with a name like Summer Fever and the light beer label on the can, gives it more of a light lager, summer guzzler vibe, which this isn't. I guess maybe this is the IPA lover's light beer, and I'm ok with that I guess. I enjoyed it well enough, but I would warn, don't drink this expecting a full IPA or a summer guzzler, as it is neither.
