Poured into a Seattle Beer Week pint glass. Pours a moderately hazy, medium to dark coppery amber with a fine, one finger off-white head with great retention and solid lacing; looks nice. Aroma of biscuit malt, citrus and piney hops, lemon, light pine and a little graham cracker. Flavor is deep biscuit malt, citrus and piney hips, orange, lemon, pine needles; assertive piney and citrus rind bitterness in the finish. Medium bodied with moderate creaminess, nice mouth feel. One of the pleasures of stopping at some of the small breweries is finding these malty IPAs that harden back to West Coast IPAs of decades ago. It's a style I forget that I miss until I have one. This IPA is serious, great malty body and tradition NW hops displaying citrus and pine. The hop bill is somewhat simple at first, but develops character through the taste and finishes with good piney and citrus character. My first taste left a great pine flavor that was almost as clear as spruce or pine tip enhanced ales. Nicely done. Extra points for the malt and finish.I like this one. Scored a bit high because this is a style I see rarely and is well done. Not for the "crisp pale malt" crowd.
