Pours orange-ish which immediately indicates a non New England IPA, but then again, the can says Vermont. Yes, technically there are these types of Vermont IPAs as well, but I have a feeling they were going for the big guns from there.
Also looks way over carbonated (it doesn't end up being that, thankfully).
The nose is of sticky sweetness (honey), some foul skankiness and a boatload of malt. Ouch. The taste is of tea. Chamomile mostly with honey.
I'm confused. What does this IPA-ish beer has to do with either Vermont or New England? Rhetorical question. The answer is in the can.
My first attempt at this brewery. I will be more cautious with them going forward.

Pours a murky orange with ample head that dissipates very slowly. Moderate lacing.

Nose is mixed berries, tropical punch, assorted citrus. Nice.

Taste follows. Berries and mixed tropical fruit with a hint of evergreen in the background. Fairly sweet. No bitterness.

Medium bodied.

A surprisingly decent IPA from a brewery that has generally left me exclaiming: ‘Meh!’

Got this from the LCBO

From a 473ml can into a pint glass
IBU: 50
Canned 28 June 2022
Hops: Magnum, Idaho #7, Mosaic & Citra
Vermont IPA

APPEARANCE: Pours a 2+ finger, foamy white head with excellent retention. Slightly hazy safety orange in color with no carbonation evident. Slowly fades to a foamy cap leaving lots of chunky lacing down the glass as it empties.

SMELL: Tropical aromas, pineapple, passion fruit, honeydew melon and some caramel malts on the nose. Cantaloupe as well. Medium strength.

TASTE: Tropical notes with some honeydew melon, cantaloupe and pineapple at the swallow. Bold finish of pineapple, melon, passion fruit and some bitter pine linger on the palate. Solid.

PALATE: Medium body and medium carbonation. A little foamy on the palate, goes down fine and finishes relatively dry. Some bitterness lingers.

OVERALL: Okay, but not really a New England style IPA. Some of the tropical fruit elements are there, but this is not quite up to the standards of the style. Solid brew, but not worth a second round.

Tallboy from the LCBO; dated Apr 21 2022 and served slightly chilled.

Pours a foggy golden-amber colour, kicking up just over a finger of puffy, foamy white head; it settles off to a creamy quarter-inch cap and collar within a couple of minutes. An even coat of lace adheres to the glass - looks good, but there's a lot of clumpy sediment strewn throughout the body. A little earthy and floral on the nose, with fruity notes of mango, melon, grapefruit and orange also discernible.

A juicy, flavourful NEIPA - red grapefruit, papaya and tangerine come through initially, with notes of mango, honeydew and stone fruit developing by mid-sip. Fruity through the finish, but with a fair bit of bitterness added to the mix: herbal and floral, concluding with earthy bitterness and tropical fruits dissipating into the aftertaste. Not quite 'warming', but you can easily tell it's strong. Medium-full in body, with moderately low carbonation that softly prickles the tongue, resulting in a smooth, satisfying mouthfeel. Decent drinkability for its strength, but one can per night is enough.

Final Grade: 3.91, a B+. I enjoyed my can of Redline's Far From Home, and I wouldn't hesitate to buy this again if I happen upon some more. As has been mentioned previously, this style of beer is bursting at the seams with competition, and I agree with the insinuation that FFH doesn't really distance itself from the pack all that much. Still, I'm personally fond of this sort of hop profile, and would encourage all hopheads to seek this out and give it a shot.

Review from notes. Served cold into a pint glass.

Appearance - Ruddy yellowy / honey brown, moderate white head and minimal lacing. Plenty of lacing.

Smell - Plentiful citrus aromas, some grapefruit and mango being most prominent. Fairly aromatic.

Taste - Semi-juicy with some bitter greapfruit and a little sweet mango. Nicely blended. Booze hidden as expected.

Mouthfeel - Medium-full bodied, semi juicy finish.

Overall - A goo enough beer, but in the incredible competitive NEIPA space, Far From Home just didn't make much of an impact one way or another. Serviceable and good, but quite a standout.
