Pours a black color with a minimal head that disappears quickly. Aroma is alcohol and chocolate. Tastes of sweet chocolate and bourbon. Starts sweet with a kick of slightly bitter alcohol at the end. Definitely warms you up. Good mouth feel.

Pours viscous and black, with a full finger of head. Nice aroma, bittersweet chocolate, plenty of vanilla and honeyed character from the bourbon barrels, some light tannins. Much heavier vinous notes on the palate, contrasting with some rich chocolate but leaving a very short, somewhat sharp finish.

Pours black with a finger of caramel-colored foam. Head retention is good. Aroma is roasty, toasty, earthy, nutty malts with molasses, toffee and caramel just beyond. The heavy, but sweet opening segways into a bit of bourbon heat and chary oak at the finish. Flavor profile is roasty, toasty, earthy, bready malts with caramel, toffee, molasses, raisins, and chocolate as the sweeteners. Despite the lengthy list of sugary notes, it never feels dessert like, instead featuring a bit of smooth bourbon that swells up just a touch of heat at the finale of the beer. Bourbon meats a little smooth oaky char at the finish as well, adding a kiss of bitterness. Mouth feel is medium-thick with a velvety, chalky texture. Overall, robust and straightforward in terms of focus and notes, creating a filling and flavorful experience without distraction. This is a fantastic bourbon-barrel aged imperial stout.

Served in a 15.5oz Speigalau tulip from a 12oz can.

The Black Magic Stout comes with a dark brown/ black color. The taste has a nice hints of chocolate, light coffee, and vanilla. The body is very full and fills your mouth. This is a good beer for a heavier taste and feel thats nice on the winter times.

22 ounce bottle into snifter, no bottle dating. Pours opaque dark brown/black color with a 1 finger dense tan head with great retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lasts. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, molasses, vanilla, toffee, coconut, bourbon, toasted oak, brown sugar, and dark/brown bread; with lighter notes of almonds, licorice, raisin, prune, dates, smoke, herbal, pepper, and roast/toast/oaky earthiness. Touch of booze in the aromas as it warms, but not overwhelming. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of dark/roast/bready malt, bourbon barrel, and light earthy hop/fruity yeast notes; with great strength. Taste of big milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, molasses, vanilla, toffee, coconut, bourbon, toasted oak, brown sugar, and dark/brown bread; with lighter notes of almonds, licorice, raisin, prune, dates, smoke, herbal, pepper, and roast/toast/oaky earthiness. Light roast/char bitterness and bourbon/oak tannin spiciness on the finish. Lingering notes of milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, molasses, vanilla, toffee, coconut, bourbon, toasted oak, brown sugar, dark/brown bread, light licorice/dark fruit, herbal, and roast/toast/oaky earthiness on the finish for a while. Awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt, bourbon barrel, and light earthy hop/fruity yeast flavors; with a great roasted bitter/sweet and bourbon/oak spiciness balance; with zero cloying or acrid/astringent flavors after the finish. Lightly increasing dryness from roast bitterness and bourbon/oak spiciness. Light-medium carbonation and full body; with a very smooth, creamy, silky, and velvety mouthfeel that is fantastic. Light sticky hops, chalky roast, and oak tannins. Mildly increasing warmth of 12%, with minimal barrel booziness lingering after the finish. Overall this is an outstanding barrel aged imperial stout! All around awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt, bourbon barrel, and light earthy hop/fruity yeast flavors; very smooth and dangerously easy to sip on for the big ABV. Very rich malt complexity with outstanding barrel balance/integration. Never overly boozy, tannic, or drying. Mild complementing yeast fruitiness and balancing earthy hops against sweetness. A highly enjoyable offering.

Poured into a pint glass it has a black body and a dark beige head. Smell of vanilla, roasted malt, green apple, caramel, chocolate, and some slight bourbon. Taste is much the same with a lot of roasted malt, chocolate, green apple, vanilla, and some slight coffee at the end. Mouthfeel is full as well as body with a moderate carbonation. Lansing Brewing Company never fails to disappoint with another lackluster release, the green apple flavor (acetaldehyde) is off putting especially with the heavy use of roasted malt which is more towards a RIS, which it doesn't state RIS anywhere so I assumed it was just a AIS when I bought it though not so much an issue if done right, and the bourbon flavor is barely there. I like to give them a chance and stay open minded as local is always best, but this just isn't. This should've been discounted/aged longer in hopes it turns out better, it just tastes rushed, $17 dollars a bottle is too much.
