This beer pours a simple black with a solid head. The aroma is dark and roasty with notes of black coffee, dark chocolate, fudge, and vanilla - not noticeable coconut on the nose. The flavor starts fairly light with mild coffee and roastiness, then bitter dark chocolate and vanilla, with a slight astringency on the finish. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with foamy carbonation and a bit of lingering plushness. Overall this is a fine beer, but the lack of promised coconut is a bit of an issue - it is still a decent American porter, but as a coconut porter it misses the mark.

advertised as a coconut porter, it presents itself in the glass a whole lot more like a brown ale to me, a see through mid tone brown, nice bubbly head, but none of the pushing black shade i associate with most porter. the roasted malt and attendant bitterness from such grains is not here either, and in aroma and flavor, this is squarely a brown ale as a base beer, and if someone were to disagree, especially the brewer, i would love to hear the defense of this as a porter. leaving that obvious fact aside, i like the beer pretty well as a brown, the cocoa brings out the coconut, which tastes toasted and natural to me, and appropriately dosed for how light the base beer is. its only a touch sweet, no sweeter than the malt is here, and it lingers the right length of time on the tongue for me. good carbonation and super drinkable, with a light woody and cocoa complexion at the end. once i accept it as a brown ale, its a nice beer, a little thin even for a brown in the body, but the coconut part is good, not overdone. i hope to try some more stuff from these guys when i am in town next!

This beer pours a very dark brown color from the can. The head isn't very thick, or long lasting, but is a nice tan color.
The nose is not very strong. I do think I get a slight coconut hint from it.
The taste is weird. I think I do get coconut, but I almost get a BA aspect, even though it isn't a BA beer. I just don't know what to think about it, to be honest.
Watery feeling beer.
Overall, as stated before I don't know what to think about this beer. It's a strange bird, for sure.
