i have seen these libertine beers around a little bit, but have been really turned off by the prices, but maybe i should have dabbled a little sooner, as this was really impressive, a standout hoppy wild saison type in a lineup of incredible beers we drank through all day yesterday. its hazy and whitewashed looking, wheaty, with some body and a dry cereal grain complexion that is well behind the hops and the yeast. to me its mouthwatering, a little bit of bacterial acidity to it, but more bretty funk than anything else, mature and woody, with juicy hops marrying in really well. dry hopped for sure, with orange and grapefruit zippy freshness and some white wine notes in the brett, floral and tannic and interesting, not too sour to drink a lot of, and really dry and well carbonated, just a ton of character and maturity to this for it being so low alcohol and all. the hoppiness and funk together really define this one for me, awesome carbonation makes it lively too, and its seems like a good morning drink to me, that juiciness. super wild tasting, original on the fermentation side, the right amount of oak, and really interesting overall, delicious and professionally done. i will jump a little quicker at the next libertine beer i come across!
