West Chester is the town that our co-founder Kai and his wife Claudia first met. West Chester is an Apple Brandy Barrel-Aged Imperial Stout conditioned on Nicaraguan coffee. The base imperial stout is a first-running stout that clocks in at 13% ABV. This imperial stout was aged in the barrels for nine months, and the result is an imperial stout with notes of sweet apple, spice, rich chocolate, oak, vanilla, & caramel. The Nicaraguan coffee adds notes of citrus, and intense caramel, and balances it all out with a clean roast.

5 oz pour at Lures Bar & Grille. Pours an opaque dark brown/near black with a small tan head. Aroma and flavor feature coffee, dark roasted malts, vanilla, crème brûlée ,caramel, brandy, and a hint of sweet apple. Mouthfeel is smooth and hides the 13% abv quite well.

Sweet and malty and roasty. Pours black. Coffee is there but not too intense. Barrels come through in all the right ways. Liquid chocolate mocha cake in a glass.

No bottling date listed but I think this is about a year old?

The beer looks phenomenal with a thick motor oil consistency that I love. As with most Aslin stouts, the smell is sweet and complex. It follows closely on the pallet. I get lots of chocolate, caramel and vanilla. I’d guess there’s some maple syrup here too if I didn’t read the bottle Ingredients. The coffee is still here but it’s more subtle than other straight up coffee stouts. The sweetness is more prominent. I suppose I could use a little less sweetness, but I tend to shy away from the pastry stouts more than most people. Even so, I’ll finish the bottle in a sitting and regret it tomorrow in my morning work meetings. Cheers Aslin, well done and I’d get it again.

This beer pours a dark brown color with thing tan lacing. On the nose is notes of roast and sweetness from the apple brandy. Flavor is the same with some vanilla, oak, caramel, and citrus. Mouthfeel is huge for this imperial stout. This was the first of the three barrel-aged stouts I tried and was excellent. Hopefully they make this again.
