El Frutero is a a Sour Ale w/Watermelon, Lime, Habanero, & Salt. This beer is the brain child of our brewer and his girlfriend Blake & Clarise and made to mimic the end of one of their first dates, getting a snack from their local Paletero man! This beer tastes like a watermelon margarita with a hint of spice!

Smells like a port-a-potty at a chili cook-off on a hot summer day. Tastes slightly better, Aslin has some ‘splainin to do. One of the two worst drain-pour beers I’ve had in my life.

No can date
Pours a med to smaller foamy head with low retention, no lacing, hazy cloudy pale tangerine orange yellow color

Nose brings some doughy malt and yogurt lacto sour funk, fair watermelon, little citrus and pepper spice,

Taste brings more gose to start, doughy malt, wheat, creamy, yogurt lacto creamy funk, tart with some citrus and lemon lime zest, hint of salt, fair pepper heat but not much habanero flavor, fair watermelon, drier slight tart flemmy finish, lingering fair pepper heat

Mouth is med to a bit lighter bod, med to lighter fizzy carb

Overall pretty good surprisingly, I had lower expectations, but watermelon was at a huge level, pepper heat was where I hoped it would be, base gose was actually nice and not destroyed, wish there was a bit more actual habanero flavor since I love that pepper, but still nice beer

Can:
Dirty yellow orange with a head, if it can be so called, that you know isn’t long for the world. The nose is odd as the watermelon comes through, but it isn’t overly sweet. There’s not much tartness one the nose, either, to counter a wet cardboard note that is present in some early whiffs - one that turns towards an unripe stone fruit note later.

Taste includes a nice bit of watermelon, which isn’t the easiest. The base has some strawberry and a slightly odd sweet note. The habanero waits through this, and attacks in back. The heat is fairly strong, but not overpowering- perhaps because that sweet, somewhat sugary note balances it a bit. A slight sour rind note after all subsides.

Somewhat watery up front with the watermelon flavors, redeemed slightly by heat. Overall, interesting enough with some oddities that are hot and miss.

Appearance: Pours a hazy goldenstraw with a one finger head; plenty of splashy lacing

Smell: All of the adjuncts come through in the aroma - the watermelon, the lime, the salt and the chile pepper

Taste: Watermelon forward, but the lime, salt and chile pepper take over and push the watermelon to the rear; after the swallow pepper, the heat builds to a moderately high level

Mouthfeel: Light to medium body with moderate carbonation; heat on the tongue

Overall: I am not a fan of watermelon beers but I really enjoyed this blend

1 Pint can
Served in an oversized, stemless, wine glass

This beer pours pale yellow in color with a slight haze. It is topped with less than an inch of white head that leaves no trace when it is gone.

I pick up the lime, salt, and watermelon with no problem. If I really concentrate I can smell the pepper, or least imagine that I do.

The taste starts with lime and salt. The watermelon comes through the middle. The pepper leaves a slight tickle in the back of my throat but no heat to speak of.

Thin, watery mouthfeel

It is refreshing on a miserably hot Fourth of July. Thank goodness for conditioned air.
