Strong maple and brown sugar on the nose, cinnamon dominates the finish. Perfect amount of pepper/spice. Delicious

Pours a very dark color with a slight head and lacing
Aroma has generous maple, bacon and cayenne pepper hints
The taste follows the nose with a well balanced maple, bacon and cayenne pepper flavor
A medium bodied decently carbonated beer
A good Barleywine with a spicy taste and a strong kick

So it's maple, bacon, and cayenne pepper in a barleywine, with Yacht Rock imagery on the can. Daddy like. Could have gone for the classic/prog rock "John Barleywine Must Die."

16 oz. can, made sometime in March.

Poured into Teku glass and allowed to warm.

L: Very small off-white head with a tiny bit of lacing and a ring. Beer is very dark brown.

S: Lot of maple and barleywine sweetness on the front of the nose. Hints of cinnamon and pepper to come, but not too much there on the nose.

T: Which is OK because it certainly is there on the taste. You get the brown sugar, maple, and malt sweetness first, and then the pepper really comes in and lets you know it's there. Also some cinnamon and if you can compartmentalize the pepper for a moment, the smokiness of the bacon comes in just a little bit.

F: Full-bodied, not much carbonation to speak of, but it's there. Getting all these flavors to work together is quite an accomplishment, but unfortunately there was a bit of a heavy hand with the pepper and this augments the ABV heat rather than dovetailing with it.

O: First of all, a Mexican-Canadian breakfast barleywine is quite an accomplishment in creativity and execution, so full marks on that account. It really works as well as a stout. But just too much pepper. Cut it by a third and this would be a classic instead of just very, very good.

Appearance: Pours tea brown with a one finger ecru head; dots of lacing all over the place as the head fades to a ringlet and archipelago

Smell: Caramel tones, complemented by cinnamon, maple and bacon; the cayenne warms the nostrils

Taste: Caramel, cinnamon and cayenne forward, with the maple and bacon rounding out the harsher flavor; moderate amounts of heat, after the swallow, with the cayenne and cinnamon building into the finish

Mouthfeel: Full bodied with low to moderate carbonation; warmth in the gullet and heat on the tongue

Overall: Not sure where the other reviewers are coming from thinking of this as a Mexican stout as it is clearly a Barleywine - a maple, bacon, cinnamon, brown sugar and cayenne Barleywine, at that; I'm giving Aslin top marks for the creativity here

Is it more Mexican stout than barley wine? Maybe. Not sure I care. Cinnamon, brown sugar, and cayenne dominate this delicious brew. If Oro Negro and Bomb! are your jam, definitely recommend giving this one a try.

A Mexican stout pretending to be a barley wine. So disappointed. Grading this one to style. A drain pour. I have only so many brain cells, liver capacity and calories available.

A - Aromas of chocolate and roasted malts. Like a milk stout. Sweet. Cinnamon and other spices.

MF - sharp, acidic, this beer destroyed my palate. It took half of my next beer to get back to normal.

T - Jalapeño pepper hot, with rich malts leaning to chocolate. Hard to tell with the pepper and cinnamon.

Well past it's prime at this point, which is a shame cause I spent quite a while trying to track one down after all the praise I'd heard for it. harsh and (black) peppery with little bacon left save a little bit of smokiness that comes across more as chipotle pepper than anything else. Hope they brew this again and I can try it fresh to give it a fair shake

This doesn’t remind me of any barleywine I’ve had before. The style is pretty vague and allows for a wide interpretation range from the brewer. I’m an unabashed Aslin fanboy, so take this for what it’s worth, but mmmmmm this beer is gooooood.

Burnt black with faint red hues and a bubbly tan film that raises at the collar.

Smell is savory mocha with brown sugar, mimicking a wonderful Mexican coffee.

This stouty af barleywine knocks your teeth in with a smoky maple bacon cream stick. The spicy swallow actually imitates a barrel sort of character due to the heat, which doesn't specifically seem peppery and is kind of like bourbon. As it warms I get hints of cinnamon French toast.

Rich Girl, compared to most of her style, has a creamier medium body with a soft froth and a powder dry finish. This girl fucks!

Yeah...maybe they're trying too hard to make barleywine popular with people that don't like barleywine...? But it's a treat all the same.
