Collaboration with Bearded Iris Brewing

Inspired by our favorite blue drink from those roller skating weirdos at that classic drive-in burger joint, this Sour IPA was hopped with Lemon Drop, Citra and Mosaic. Then we conditioned it on toasted coconut, limes, lemons and vanilla and to give you all the ocean vibez. If that wasn’t enough, we used a natural flavorless algae to give the beer it’s easy breezy blue color!

I don't see any date listed on the can or the label.

Appearance: The body of the beer is murky and has the color of green pond water. It looks like an algae bloom happened in this beer. There is a very short white head that quickly fizzes away to a featureless surface at the top of the beer. No head retention or lacing. It definitely isn't the most flattering shade of green.

Aroma: It smells like coconut sun screen.

Taste: Up front there is coconut and lime flavor. It has a tart character about it at all times. Sour lemon comes through the more it is consumed. There is a light but lingering vanilla aftertaste.

Mouthfeel: Carbonation feels fine. It has a strong tart presence. It has mild drinkability due to the tartness.

Overall: The label states that this is a "Sour India Pale Ale Brewed with Lemon, Lime, Toasted Coconut, Vanilla & Milk Sugar." The milk sugar doesn't come through but the other advertised ingredients come through at one or more points while drinking the beer. There is no hop character at all so it's interesting that the brewer called this an IPA. It is a lot like a fizzy cocktail drink. As a whole it feels about average compared to the other flavored cocktails on the market. As an IPA it leaves a lot to be desired. The beer would work well as a poolside refresher or as a substitute for a piña colada. I probably wouldn't buy it again but it was interesting.

L: Cool hazy blueish green that pops and catches your attention, nice head that dissipates quickly.
S: Mild piny smell with slight background vanilla scent.
T: Nice smooth mild ipa sour with coconut milk and vanilla finish.
F: Average mouthfeel, slightly oily coconut butter finish adds to mouthfeel and hold the taste to your tastebuds.
O: Very interesting and refreshing beer, extra points for creativity.

L - Deep blue/green with a light blue-ish head that dissipates somewhat quickly leaving behind a good amount of lacing.
S - Not too strong of a smell, but some coconut as well as piney hops
T - Tons of lemon and piney hops up front and throughout along with hints of lime and a slight hint of toasted coconut on the back end. Some notes of vanilla in there as well and the milk sugar gives it an overall sweetness to balance out the bitterness from the hops and citrus. Somewhat of a blue raspberry taste going on as well. Some sourness as well.
F - Medium bodied with a moderate to high amount of carbonation. Smooth, but crisp
O - A really interesting take on a sour IPA. The blue hue is pretty amazing and adds to the overall "copycat" experience.
