Slate blackish brown opaque body, mushroom colored head. Smells like bourbon barrel aged marshmallow and caramel so powerfull, barley and wood are faint. Taste is so sweet with sugary vanilla and marshmallow, caramel, molasses, brown sugar with only a little barley to balance. plus the rest of the barrel is gone. More barrel would have really helped the balance. Feel though is somehow warmer and sugary though thick. Rev, please, no more pastry barleywine, they only disappoint

2023 release. No head. Caramel brown color.
Vanilla, but not overly sweet. Caramel, toffee, butterscotch. Oak, bourbon, light char. Light cocoa, cake batter. Plums, dried apple skins.
Really nice bw, with a lot going on. Vanilla doesn’t dominate.

I'm always excited to try some Aslin barrel aged beers as they're hard to come by in the Midwest Chicago area. Broadlands is a nice looking barleywine. It's darker than most others (more black than brown.) It pours thinner than a stout as it should and that to me is always a bit of a letdown until I remind myself it's a barleywine. The smell is phenomenal with tons of booze and sweetness. The vanilla is low key, but there. There's little head. Tasting it, it follows the smell very closely. I am expecting more vanilla given all the vanilla bombs out there nowadays, but this one is much more subtle. I wish it had more vanilla perhaps, but I can also appreciate that all vanilla BA stouts/barleywines don't have to be ALL vanilla. It is a bit sweet for me as are most Aslin stouts. The barrel is really forward which I love, but I wish all of their stouts weren't so desserty. The bottle was perfect to share with a buddy, but it would be way too much sweetness for me to finish on my own. A worthy beer to seek out and pick up.
