This might be amongst the worst offenders of the IPA purity laws. Of course, none of such exist. Just to update those without any historical references, an original IPA is barley malt based. With a foamy stark white head that recedes quickly and unevenly, it's likely wheat has been substituted for barley in the wort here. The aroma is subdued and mildly perfume-llke, another warning sign. The color is a pleasantly opaque, but not murky, deep and dark amber. Except for the starchy white foam pretending to be a proper beer head, this is a good looking brew. But, the smell is like a shallow piney hopped ale, without any layers. No surprise, the mouthfeel is barley malt deprived thin. It's surprisingly earthy sweet, but without a genuine malt body, it doesn't have a great medium for its delivery. The hopping is somewhat piney and a little resinous, leaving a decent finish. There may be just a little more alcohol in the taste to make that aspect ideal. No real glass lacing here, just like other wheat infused IPAs. It also drinks a little flatly. This one is far from exceptional and closes in on the avoidable.

T - The taste is lemongrass, pear, orange, grapefruit and light piney hops.

O - Solid DIPA. Pretty crushable for 8.5%.

I CAN't tell you how excited I am to be getting Aslin among our distro here in PA! I love these guys & the fact that they are dedicated to the furtherance of The CANQuest (tm) makes it a double-plus bonus for me.

From the CAN: "Triple Dry-Hopped Double India Pale Ale"; "One Glorious Pint".

I Crack!ed open the vent & beCAN a slow, gentle C-Line Glug into the awaiting glass. This led to the formation of two-plus fingers of dense, foamy, rocky, bone-white head with decent retention. Color was Golden-Amber (SRM = > 5, < 7) with NE-quality clarity, resulting in the appearance of The Gelt Gang of Mammon, Midas & Croesus, all ClANmoring for a taste. They have no shame! Nose had a pronounced tropical fruit quality held in check by a pine mintiness & my mouth beCAN to water. Mouthfeel was medium-to-full, not bad, but a little on the light side for the style. The taste was very cool and minty with an offsetting tropical fruitiness and a peach-like sweetness. Note that I did not characterize the tropical fruitiness as "sweet", since it was not. It had a tang, but it was not the source of the light sweetness of the beer's flavor. This was not a bitter beer, which I would have preferred, but neither was it sweet. It was very cool throughout with a pronounced pine quality, which I thought was a nice touch, especially for Fall/Autumn. Finish was cool & dry and just the sort of thing to put a smile on my face. YMMV.

Hazy pale amber with a tall khaki foam head settling to a lumpy surface leaving chunky, spongy blobs of lace on the lace.

Taste is both juicy of citrus but also assertive of evergreen spice and aftershave components. There's a bit of a toasted graham malt with a touch of woody, catty pine resin within the medium-light body, which also at times transitions into a minty character. A light froth expands minimally before coming to a just paper dry finish, exhaling a touch of heat. Smell is a little cattier than the rest, which is where I ding it the most.

A: The beer is very hazy yellow in color and has some hues of dark amber. It poured with a quarter finger high white head that left a narrow collar around the edge and some lacing down the sides of the glass.
S: Light to moderate aromas of lemongrass are present in the nose along with hints of spicy peppers.
T: The taste has flavors of gooseberries and lemongrass and finishes with hints of peppers.
M: It feels medium-bodied and juicy on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: I found this IPA to have an interesting contrast between fruity and spicy flavors.
