Starfish but make it PURPLE. A twist on one of our ol’ reliables, Purple Starfish is hopped with Citra, (a bit more) Mosaic & rounded out with Galaxy. This IPA is juicy & full of citrus-y flavor but still totally crushable.

Pale yellow, highly hazed but not cloudy, with a slightly disappointing head. Neutral nose cold, the first thing I start to notice as it warms is a passionfruit aroma with a light hop weed aroma in the background. Medium light body - but sitting in a nice spot for the ABV, but the expectations from the look could be throwing my expectations off. More tangerine-like on the fruity side of the taste, which is the stand out side to my palate. I start to get the tangerine impression on the nose the more I sip as well. More of a neutral bitterness that counters the citrus tartness (versus the more typical malt sweetness), though the tartness plays to the end. The finish and more so the linger finally get a little tropical fruit skin to herbal green notes.

Pours cloudy light orange color with a small head that faded on the faster side and left minimal spotty lacing. Smells like a fruity potpourri with orange peel and grapefruit on top of it. Tastes completely different, with tangerine, grapefruit, orange peel, lemon zest, tropical fruit, graham cracker, biscuit, faint caramel and mild peppery spices.

Not as juicy as I anticipated. This beer is a solid beer but barely considered a NE IPA in my book.

I was passing through Pittsburgh and stopped in at Merchant Oyster Company for brunch. I wanted to order a bottled hazy IPA with my lobster scramble. Fortunately, the bartender recommended the one he had on tap. Aslin Purple Starfish pulled into a 12 ounce beer glass. Very nice pale yellow opaque with a thick 1/2 head. Taste was a pleasant orange/mango with quiet cascade hops. The relatively low ABV of 5.7% allowed me to drink 3 with breakfast.

Poured from the can into a Spiegelau IPA glass. Packaged July 28th 2022.
Pale light lemon with an opaque but not totally turbid body, almost a straw like glow. Big and bold bright white classic head, easily reaching three to four fingers possibly of minor soapy retention bubbles. Good cling and lace with a bit of island like top as well.
Nice balanced dank hop like aroma with a touch of briney salty like qualities. Flirts with a light tropical note in the background as well giving to some real complexity too. Fairly neutral malt presence also.
Palate really adds a delicious layer. Soft bodied with a good push of almost sweet bready flavor, mixing in with a real nice hop angle. Mid palate welcomes a real touching mineral earth and tropical delicious hop blast of rocky mango and juiced up melon. Finishes with even more so, and a spicy note that covers nicely. Full bodied and rich, but with such a mild abv that is hardly noticeable.
A real powerful drinking IPA, that is light in ABV making it even more impressive. Sign me up for more!

16oz can, no date. Not sure why it's the Purple Starfish, and I'm not sure I want to know
Pours up very hazy and with a big ole white cap that slowly settles into a sticky web. Smell is very green and wet and dank. Great tasting hop flavor. Intense pine and citrus. The best tasting IPA that I've had in recent memory. A return to form, almost like the first time I had Wet or Zombie Dust or Pseudo Sue - it's that good
