Half pour in the brewery. No tasting samples allowed.
Appearance: Dark brown glass, no head.
Smell: Rich malt, mild hop, firm Bourbon and wood notes.
Taste: Candy malt infused with Bourbon, little bit of hops poke through, but it's candied Bourbon.
Mouthfeel: Heavy body, low carbonation, clean, slightly oily finish.
Overall: "Barleywine aged in Four Roses and New Riff Bourbon barrels for 16 months and then transferred to Peerless Rye Bourbon barrels for 12 months" I didn't take good enough notes, but enjoyed the hell out of this beer. Big flavor profile, but easy drinking, never tasted the alcohol, the Bourbon was full volume, but matched by the big malty base. Smooth as silk, I'll be thinking about this one for a while. Beer of the Year.
