This one pours a very dark black color, with a small head, and no lacing.
This smells like boozy and almost fusel rye, milk chocolate, and a veritable vanilla sledgehammer to the nose.
The barrel character on this one is quite strong – 22 months in rye barrels will do that – adding, heat, spice, leather, tobacco and caramel to the very focused and concentrated vanilla character. I’m not even going to begin to pretend to tell you that I can tell that that this has vanilla from three different vanilla paradises in it – that’s too much to stake a claim to on a beer that has abs on the label and refers to a certain implement that gets placed into a certain place where the sun doesn’t shine.
This is thick, but not syrupy, with a good enough drinkability for something that’s 17% and barrel aged for nearly two years. There’s definitely some boozy heat but it’s well placed and well-integrated.
This has absolutely no subtlety, and was super decadent. It’s good stuff but won’t be for everybody.
