L: creamy khaki head caps a cola colored porter
S: oaky bourbon, caramel, chocolate, vanilla
T: bourbon forward with loads of woody oak notes; caramel, vanilla, chocolate, toasty grain, earthy hops
F: medium body, ample carbonation, bourbon start-to-finish
O: bourbon forward all the way with this one. I like Bulleit bourbon (side note - I like their rye whiskey more) but this lighter base beer can’t hold up to the big bourbon flavors, therefore lacking balance between the beer and the bourbon barrel aging - the bourbon dominates the flavors here. A bigger [Imperial] porter would have helped balance in my opinion. This was still an enjoyable beer, but I kept thinking “what if”.
