a neat take on a summer ale, done with a host of grains including rice, and fermented with a kveik strain, very subtle but definitely more of a farmhouse than a typical blonde ale type that makes up the vast majority of the summer ale style offerings. very pale whitewashed yellow tone to this, short but fluffy inch of white head on top, very delicate and lively in appearance. the nose is slightly estery, almost belgian to me, restrained with light apricot notes, green grape too maybe, mellow dill and white pepper as well. the mash is interesting here too, i like the rice adding some starch to this and some oats puffing up the body so this can be light without being thin, its dry but it lingers too, floral at the end, not really hoppy in the traditional sense, but the hops in this definitely contribute a little bitterness also. this is somehow crisp for being saison-esque, and its light while also having some depth, hard to do, and overall i was stoked on the drinkability, the flavor, and the texture. i wish more summer ale types would lean in this direction. also, cool use of this yeast in a way that isnt overpowering like it can commonly be, works great in this context.
