this guys make a fine hefe, but its one of their more traditional beers and i dont reckon one of their very best. easy enough to drink in the summer, nothing offensive about it, but it lacks the richness the best examples of the style have, and it doesnt have the carbonation (like a lot of the beers here in my experience). it does have an enjoyable light and dry feel to it though, and the yeast flavor is great, not running away too wild or anything with the esters, but nicely sporting the traditional aromas and flavors of banana and clove. it think the wheat malt is a little underdone here, its so delicate and light, almost watery in a way, and not as flavorful as it might be, a far cry from creamy and hearty in any event, but as much as i miss that aspect, i also sort of dig the more sessionable approach to this, especially in humid summertime. i thought the dark ones and the hoppy ones were their best, but this was a hit with my girlfriend for sure. i can see the appeal, its just one of the more generic beers pouring in this awesome little rural brewery.
edit: this has improved a lot since i first had it a few years back, more of a classic yeast profile to it, estery and bright and fruity, really a whole lot more robust than i remember it, which is true of the grain flavor and the body too. overall much better than it used to be, raising a few scores to reflect that.
