Poured into a pint glass, the appearance was a mostly dark brown color close to black color with a thin white foamy head that quickly dissipated. Light speckled lace. The aroma had a fairly nice roastiness to it. Resinous bitter, somewhat piney hops play with a slight herbal leafiness underneath. The flavor seems to lean towards the herbal leafiness. Roastiness and resinous bitter qualities sit in the background a little bit more. Slight herbal leafy to semi-roasty aftertaste. Dry herbal to resinous finish. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium in body with a fair sessionability about it. Decent carbonation. ABV felt fine. Overall, interesting porter with that herbal leafiness coming in all around. Not sure if I would have again, pretty different if anything.

lots of developed chocolate notes to this, some bitter from the roast, some nutty almond sort of notes in here too, nicely layered and pretty classic at the same time. my only real critique of this one is that it felt a little thin to me, some oats or something to boost the body and creaminess of this would be a welcome addition, but the beer tastes great and was really one of the only dark beers they had working while i was there. both milk chocolate and a more intense dark unsweetened type chocolate are present in the flavor, its a nice back and forth between them, all from the malt. nice understanding of the ingredients is clearly on display. seems like a similar ale yeast to what they are using in most of their other brews, basic and simple but a hard worker that kind of stays out of the way, this is on the drier side for the style. its not watery or anything, but more body would surely improve this one, especially as we move into some cooler which cant be too far away up here. another enjoyable brew from these guys.
