Poured into a Fremont pint glass Pours a medium coppery amber with a slightly off-white, two finger head with good retention and nice lacing. Aroma of biscuit malt, citrus and grassy hops, malt, spicy dried hay and vague citrus. Flavor is crackery biscuit malt, citrus and grassy hops, orange, a touch of pine, spicy dry hay and faint mixed tropical fruit; solid finishing bitterness. Medium bodied with light to moderate creaminess. This is something I don't think I've had in a while; a an old fashioned malted pale ale. There are quite of few IPAs with this flavor profile on the West Coast, but this is the first pale ale in memory. I'm a fan of malty, English leaning ales and always enjoy finding a new one. Not that complex and not what I expected from a Mosaic ale (a lot less mixed fruit), but a good, enjoyable profile. An undated can, so the hop profile may reflect age, but I'm still a fan. I liked the looks, aroma and tasted of this one. I'm not a big sports fan, but the play on the great hockey player's name cheered me up. Nicely done.

nice to have an homage to the great one, but aside from the name, and of course the quality, there really is nothing special or unique about this american pale ale. we dont need crazy hop varietals or gnarly sediment swirling around to make a good pale ale these days, people forget that it seems these days. this is a simple brew, like a lot of them here, but a very well made one, and just different enough to be sexy. super fresh grassy and citrusy hops in here, hints of pineapple and wet hay, subtle honey type malt is fresh too with just a minor sweetness to it in the middle. moderately dry finish, bitter enough but well balanced, and about medium in body. its a basic american pale ale, but its proportions are on point and the overall flavor is great. if i was a regular here, this would surely be my go to beer. like most of their stuff, i wish it had a little more carbonation, but that really didnt slow me down any. an easy beer to make an afternoon of in one of the cooler breweries i have been to this year.
edit: this is better now than it was a couple of summers ago when i was last here and originally reviewed this one, loaded with mosaic and is super fresh, not at all out of balance with a little more sturdy grain base, and just drinkable and delicious. these guys are doing some of the best beers in the region across all styles. yum!
